HISTORY

Marshall Drive Baptist Church began in the fall of 1952 as a mission in Grand Prairie, Texas.  The mission quickly organized into a church on December 12, 1952 as people responded to its message.  The church was named Grand Prairie Missionary Baptist Church and this small group of people met at 2021 Dallas Street with R. E. Rogers as their pastor.  In the spring of 1953, land was purchased on Dalworth Street and a sanctuary was built.

In 1978, the land located at 717 East Marshall Drive was purchased and a 6,000 square foot structure was erected.  Later in 1988, the building was enlarged by an additional 7,000 square feet and modifications were made to the original structure.  Also a paved parking lot was constructed.

The Church has changed its name several times.  Its first name, Grand Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, was changed to Great Southwest Missionary Baptist Church and later to First Missionary Baptist Church.  After that, it has become known as Marshall Drive Baptist Church.

PURPOSE

Over the fifty-six years of the existence of the church,  its name and looks have changed, but its purpose has not changed.

Marshall Drive Baptist Church has sent out missionaries, established several missions, supports missions and missionaries all over the world and has been responsible for the beginning of two other churches.  In the early 1980's several families moved from Grand Prairie to Bedford to establish the Central Baptist Church of Bedford, Texas.  The church also sent a missionary to Maryland and a church was organized there within four years.  At the present, Marshall Drive Baptist Church oversees a mission in Mexico.

FAITH

Marshall Drive Baptist Church has not wavered in her faith, believing that God is the Supreme Being (Hebrews 11:6); the Bible (or scriptures) is the writings or book of God (II Timothy 3:16); that salvation is the saving grace of God (Romans 10:13); the church is a meeting place to meet and worship God (Hebrews 10:25); that baptism is the believer's public profession of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (Romans 6:4); and communion is a church's memorial supper, remembering the Lord's death until He returns for us        (I Corinthians 11:24-26).
